Should I choose other value disney resorts or choose a moderate resort?

My AAA travel agent just told me that the Pop Century Resort is full from May 18-25, 2009. She said my other available options were the Sports or Movie resorts. I'm debating whether it's worth staying at one of them or should I upgrade to a moderate resort? It's just my husband and I. I just don't know if I should spend the extra money or if it will be worth it to upgrade or not.

Rather than repeat what everyone else already told you (and its mostly good and accurate) I should point out that the ONLY dining offerrings at the Values is the food court. The moderates all offer a sit down table service resauraunt.

Not sure how important liquor is but Pop has a bar next to their food court but the others do not. The moderates all have bars in or near the restauraunt (and I think pool bars too!) .

May not be important to you but to me it was a deciding factor. I went moderate for this reason.

All the value resorts (pop, sports, music, etc) have the same room sizes. One is not better than other. Look at location. If you have your own car, then its not a problem. If you're relying on disney transportion, then this is what frustrates most people. It is the longest trip from theme parks(except animal kingdom) and it has multiple stops, which means a loooong bus ride after walking in the park(not what you want). My favorite is Port Orleans. Beautiful grounds to walk around. They have their own boat which travels down to Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island, plus convienent to other theme parks. I like to think of it as spending the money to get the extra time to enjoy. If you're looking to save a little extra cash, another option is Hotel Plaza Blvd. Its several hotels across the street from Downtown Disney. Cheaper rooms and a short walk to Downtown gives you access to any of the buses to the theme parks

In my opinion, your not in the hotel room a lot so why spend so much money on a room your only sleeping in for a couple of hours. I like the value resorts. The All-Stars are great.

Although I have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, that was a lot of fun too.

I've stayed at the Movie resort & it was cute. The rooms are the same no matter which value resort you pick; it's just the decor & the grounds that have the different theme.

For the little bit of time you spend in the room, I would pick the Movie resort & save your money for something else.

Have a great time!

I've stayed at the Pop Century and also at one of the moderate resorts (Port Orleans). My feeling is that you're probably not going to be spending that much time at the resorts so paying the extra money for a moderate resort may not be all that worthwhile. Now, if you do plan to spend a lot of time at the resorts, I'd recommend staying at one of the higher end resorts, like the Grand Floridian.

Stay at another value resort. If Pop Century is booked solid, all 2,880 rooms, then you are going to probably be in the park more than at your hotel. Besides you can save the extra money you would have spent a moderate resort and use it towards your next vacation.

We stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter for our Honeymoon and had a great time. Then stayed at POP the next year and didn't like it as much. My personal thought is that the values just have too many loud children running around. The food court was like a zoo. So it wasn't a very good start to our day with screaming kids everywhere. No we didn't spend much time at either, but I like quiet and don't like to hear other people's children running around screaming. Again, my personal opinion, but we are going back to POFQ in two weeks.

I would upgrade to the Moderate resorts. They value resorts are more for kids than adults. The Coronado Springs Resort is my favorite moderate resort. Its designed like Mexico/Spain. Its so pretty. All the buildings are colorful and the pool is amazing. Even walking to the main building is fun because the flowers and plants are pretty. For more pictures and information about Disney go to wdwinfo.com.

We stayed at All Star Movies and where very happy with it. We had a preferred room. www.allearsnet.com has lots of pictures of each resort on it. You can also go to www.tripadvisor.com and read reviews of the resorts.

We plan to go again next year and will be going back to a value resort.

I've stayed at a few of the resorts, i.e. Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Yacht Club/Beach Club,Port Orleans-Riverside, All Star-Movies and All Star Sports. I also spent some time at Carribean Beach Club too b/c my sis stayed there. Here's the deal, if you are not going to spend a lot of time at the hotel (all day and night at the parks) and don't mind a lot of ppl/kids running around then I would go for either All-Star Sports or Pop. Since Pop is filled then my 2nd choice is always Sports, we are staying at Sports at the end of may. Since it's just going to be you and your husband you guys may want to be at the hotel a little bit more, say for romantic dinners, walks round the hotel area etc. If this is the case, then I would see about upgrading. But I would not stay at the Carribean Beach b/c when I was there it was very loud, and there were a lot of kids running around (lol-it's disney) But I found the Carribean Beach had just as many kids/ppl as Sports/Movies. For a quieter atomsphere at a moderate I would take a chance in this order, Wilderness, Coronado Springs or Port Orleans. I have not stayed at Wilderness or Coronado but I have eaten dinner at Wilderness and the lobby is fantastic and pretty quiet, and I've heard good things about Coronado. Port Orleans is ok, the rooms are a little bigger than the value resorts and can be quiet as well. Ultimately, if I was able to stay anywhere with my hubby I would pick the Grand Floridian or the Yacht Club but those do not fit within our budget this year. So it's Sports for us, which is fine b/c we know that's its disney, there will be a lot of ppl at the end of May, and we are always at the parks first thing in the am to later in the evening. We really only use our room for sleep and showering (we have 2 small children so nothing else :-( so Sports suits just fine. But you're vaca style may be totally different so it just depends on what you guys want to do. Good luck with your decision.

Also, I don't know how the Swan and Dolphin work but those two resorts seem to be more adult oriented as well- I walked through the Dolphin when my hubby was there for a conference. I think you get disney resort benefits (extra magic hrs) staying there even though they are not disney hotels, double check that though. FYI, the Dolphin is closer to the back entrance to Epcot. (Edit-it's closer than the Swan)
