Advice Please!! AAA versus Travel Agency: Which is better?

What benefits would I get if I booked a vacation with AAA versus a travel agency? Can anyone please tell me which way you think is better and which would save me more money on say, a cruise of the Mediterranean in May 2010? Thanks!!!

First you do not have to be a member of the AAA to use the travel agency. I have used them for many cruises. On my last cruise they gave me a $25 shipboard credit and a tote bag. Other travel agencies may do the same or better. The AAA is large and may get special prices. Why not check prices with both. There is no charge for asking and they make all their money on commissions.

I booked a cruise for this June and was told that the gift would be a surprise.

AAA is a true travel agency just like Costco is and on line companies like vacations to go. A travel agency that you see in person may be able to help you more with details, plus they almost always throw in something extra for ya. It is a very competitive business, especially during a down economy like now.

I've always found that the "company" doesn't matter, it's the actual person your dealing with. It's what they know and the experiences they have had that help make a good vacation. And if they will try to find you the best prices. EG. If you book today and then next week there is a price drop, will your agent fight to get you the better deal? My agent is 3000 miles away from me, ( I just moved ) and she still handles everything for me. The phone and internet are wonderful things. Would you like her #?

If your just looking to save dollars deal with them both, then go with the best price.

I have booked a couple with AAA and been very happy with them. I found the person to be much more personable. Online travel agencies is the other way I've booked but I've never used a travel agency. My friends who have seen to have been happy with the service but paying much more money than I did. AAA seemed to have prices on par with Vacationstogo and I've loved the free books and maps on the places I'm going.

If you have an idea which Cruise line you prefer, you can book your vacation directly with that line. If not a very good source is

VacationstoGo.com, for discounted rates.

for all my cruise information and bookings i use www.vacationstogo.com i find their website very good to find information and great prices, especially last minute deals. also i find their experienced staff very helpful when i call them
